First off let me say, I liked Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire a lot. Let me also say that it’s like a mashup of a bunch of movies that are out right now or will be shortly. The easiest reference to a movie would seem to be Godzilla Minus One but that’s too easy. Toss in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, Mad Max: Fury Road, Planet of the Apes, The Abyss, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and a few others and you’ve got Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
Many of the same characters return and the movie does a better job at humor that Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. The action and special effects are impressive and the story is about what you’d expect from a Godzilla movie.
Seeing it on a big screen is important since the characters are literally larger than life. The little Kong didn’t do it for me and actually looked like a bad CGI to me.
