Rudy is a good sports movie. How good is wide open to interpretation and opinion. In a recent Star Tribune Sports Movie Draft, it wasn’t picked until the 5th round. (but Rush was picked even later and Ford v Ferrari wasn’t even picked at all so I’m not sure how much validity to put in this draft)

Richard Roeper, a long-time film critic for the Chicago Sun Times chose it as 1 of his Top 7 sports movies of all time and Paul Fletcher of Cities 97.1 and Movies.Over.Easy. fame has it as his #10 movie of all time. For me, I probably would have it in my Top 50 sports movies so I guess that’s not a ringing endorsement of it. I believe that a person’s own sports bias comes into play when ranking sports movies. I’m going to rank Little Big League much higher than any movie about the New York Yankees because I’m a Twins fan. I don’t hate Notre Dame like I despise the Yankees but they aren’t my favorite either so that’s not going to give it a bump from me. It’s an inspirational, mostly true story about a guy who wants to play football for Notre Dame more than anything in the world. It’s a tale of perseverance after years of rejection. Again, I don’t hate the movie, it just isn’t my favorite.
