I’m going to start out by saying, South Korea makes good zombie movies. I’m not sure exactly what it is that makes them rise above the rest but they do it right. They are thrilling, fast-moving, well-told and well-acted. They’re a different pace from most other zombie movies and that’s a good thing. Even if you think of zombies as slow-moving undead creatures, Train to Busan and now Peninsula will make you think differently.
Train to Busan came out a few years ago and has become a cult favorite. Even though Peninsula is officially called, “Train to Busan presents: Peninsula”, there are none of the same characters, it’s just in the same universe and close time frame. The tone is the same and you can tell why they are grouped together the way they are. You could watch them in either order and still understand how they fit together.
I enjoy a good zombie movie but they were all becoming the same and these 2 movies have brought some “new blood” to the genre. (See what I did there? – ha!) you’ll get past the subtitles and really enjoy this new take.
