Would I go to a movie theater to see a double-feature of Inside Out 2 and Despicable Me 4 by myself? Highly unlikely.
Will I go to a drive-in to see Inside Out 2 and Despicable Me 4 with my grandkids? ABSOLUTELY!
We ditched the parents and drove an hour to the Joy-Lan Drive-In in Dade City, Florida. I was excited, hoping for the best. The 1st movie didn’t start until 8:15 PM. The 2nd one at 10:15 PM.
Inside Out was an ok movie to me so a sequel wasn’t originally in my plans. Introducing anxiety to kids seems odd but I liked it more than I thought I would. I liked the hockey angle but was a little miffed that they dissed on Minnesota, but sometimes Minnesota deserves it, but for Michigan? Really?
The story was good and though it was geared towards kids, it was fine. Again, the movie was ok but to experience it with my grandkids was a blast!
The discussion before we left was, would we really stay for Despicable Me 4 since it didn’t even start until 10:15 PM and we had another hour drive home when it was done.
We took a vote after Inside Out 2 and it was unanimous! Mom and dad said it was fine so we stayed and it was the favorite of the 2 movies by far. The Despicable Me movies are pretty repetitive and silly but that’s why kids (and adults) enjoy them. It was a fun movie and there really were some funny parts.
The clock was nearing midnight when we pulled out of the drive-in. We were one of the first ones there and one of the last to leave but that’s how I do movies so to experience that with the Florida Four was simple awesome.
Within 10 minutes, 3 of the 4 were zonked out and as soon as we pulled in the garage, all of them quietly got out of the van and went straight to their rooms and to bed. The next day was a little dicey but all in all it was a wonderful time. I’d do it again anytime but I’d find a way to keep the biting ants away!
