When Taken came out 12 years ago, Liam Neeson was an unlikely action hero. Though he was a versatile actor who could play most any role, he wasn’t known for his hand to hand combat and “special skills”. Honest Thief is his 12th movie to take advantage of his revenge persona, even as he is now nearing 70 years old. Much like Unhinged a couple months ago, the story isn’t complex or difficult to understand. It is what it is and if you know that going in, you’re going to thoroughly enjoy it. Kate Walsh plays his girlfriend for whom he wants to come clean with. Though the idea of suddenly turning in 9+ million dollars for a couple years in prison strains a little disbelief in how the justice system works, it comes across as plausible enough to take you along for the ride.
I don’t know how many more of these he has in him, but I’ll keep seeing them if they continue coming up with something a little bit original and allow me to be able to turn off my brain for about 90 minutes.
