It’s not uncommon for movies to “borrow” ideas and concepts from other movies. If you throw Death Wish, Saw 3, Taken, Promising Young Woman, The Hunt, Scarface, Halloween and a few others in a blender and set to pulverize. You’ll barely recognize any of them but you’ll see hints of them all in For the Sake of Vicious.
I had a hard time finding something to see this weekend but fortunately, Emagine Lakeville often shows movies that fly well under the radar, so far under that in some cases, I am often the only person seeing them at the screening I go to. If you hear someone say, “That’s 2 hours of my life I’ll never get back”, you can’t even apply that to For the Sake of Vicious because from the very beginning to final credit is exactly 80 minutes long.
I’m not going to blow smoke and say that it’s in any way a great movie. The storyline is easy enough to follow and the idea of a father looking for revenge for his daughter is something that I think many people can understand. There are plot holes the size of a city block and some decisions that the characters make are just plain idiotic but it knows what it is and it hits the target.
What I found very impressive is that the 2 directors did more did just direct the movie. They were involved with the music, special effects, editing (using software that I can buy at Best Buy) and even catering for the cast in addition to other tasks.
For the Sake of Vicious isn’t a movie that will change your life but just seeing it in a theater instead of on Netflix gives it props.
