One of the movies from 2019 that absolutely just sucked me in was Midsommar. To be sure, it’s not for everyone, in fact, it’s probably not something that most people would watch for 10 minutes, never mind 3 hours, on multiple occasions. It was one of the most messed-up movies that I’ve ever seen and I loved it! One of the inspirations for that movie was the original Wicker Man from 1973. I thought it was time to finally see why.
Well, The Wicker Man is pretty far out there too, that’s not debatable. Odd characters, strange songs and rituals, just all around weird. I can see some similarities but Midsommar is far superior. Yes, it was made 50+ years ago and I’m sure back then it was considered quite strange but it does have quite a cult following. From what I understand there are several versions out there with various editing on all of them. Which ever one you come across will likely shape some of how you feel about it. It was ok and for someone doing a few too many drugs it would fit right in but it just didn’t do much for me. If you do watch it and think that it’s just not strange enough, then I have a great recommendation for you!
