Do you know how you go into a movie and you have high expectations? I know, not a great idea but it happens.
I had huge hopes for The Rhythm Section so I’m pretty sure it didn’t stand a chance of meeting or surpassing those expectations. That said, it’s not a bad movie and even though we’ve seen the premise before, the execution is well done, even if it is a little confusing sometimes. Before you say I’m crazy, see this first and then tell me that Blake Lively doesn’t belong in that category of actors that are chameleon-like. She changes looks throughout the movie and doesn’t even look like the same person. Sterling K. Brown is in almost every movie in the last year and once again has that understated, but simmering tone in the way he carries himself.
Maybe I’ll like it better the next time I see it but it just just “not bad” to me. I’ve heard it’s possibly the beginning of a series of films featuring this character. If that’s the case, more people are going to need to see it than the 4 in my theater.
