When Pixar announced Soul as their next release, nothing about it piqued my interest. I haven’t been a passionate fan of their work, though it is impressive. Starting with the First Toy Story in 1995 and now their 22nd release in 2020. My favorites have been Ratatouille and Up but I’ve seen most of them.

After a glowing review from my nephew, whose movie tastes I trust implicitly, I decided to give it a go. Unfortunately, I watched it when I was a little tired and the soft jazz music actually had me nodding off occasionally during the story.

Movies that deal with death and the afterlife are tricky for me because I have strong beliefs on what it will be like and I don’t feel comfortable with that being something it’s not. In addition, death can be difficult as well, in any context. I think the movie handled it deftly and the overall theme of living life to its fullest is a very valuable lesson and one that everyone needs to take to heart.

I expect that I’ll watch it again at some point and maybe my review will change based on my life situation at that time.
