Pearl is a gem!
Earlier this year, director Ti West made X, a legit horror movie with old school Texas Chain Saw Massacre vibe. At the same time he was making it, he filmed Pearl, a prequel set in 1918. Later this year, filming starts on MaXXXine, a sequel to X.
It’s hard to explain the details but when you see it, you can make sense of the connection and it is just so much fun.
I’m a huge Brian DePalma fan and I can see echoes of his work in these movies, whether intentional or not.
Not everyone will like Pearl but I sure did.
