I’ll watch animated movies but I’m kinda picky about them. For instance, Ratatouille and The Little Mermaid are great. It was only last year (2019) that I watched the original Lion King for the first time. I’ve never seen the animated version of Mulan but I was anxiously waiting the live-action version that was due to be released in theaters in July 2020 that eventually was released in September on Disney+ at a premium price but overseas on the big screen.
After watching it on Thanksgiving Day in my own house, I truly hope to get the opportunity to see it on the big screen someday. It has an epic scale to it and it seems to be made for a theater.
As for the movie itself, the story was well-told and felt “real”. The action scenes were dynamic and well-done and though it wasn’t graphic, it pushed the line for a Disney family movie. The actors and actresses were actually quite good in their roles.
Though ambiguous endings are fine occasionally, it was refreshing to see a movie that wrapped things up and the good guys win. Call it a remake if you want but whatever you call it, it’s really good.
