Early last week I got an email for a free ticket to Kill. I had seen a poster for it but knew nothing about it. I did very little research and decided that I had nothing better to do on a rainy day so I went. I knew the movie was in Hindi, which meant subtitles but that was fine with me. The only other Hindi movie that I’ve seen was RRR and even though it was a very different kind of movie, I enjoyed it.
This movie was different as well but it’s very much a cultural thing so that was fine since I knew that going in. it’s hard to explain, it’s just a way that they make movies differently. The plot is simple. A woman is set up in an arranged marriage. After the engagement party, the family boards a train that is attacked by a gang of thieves. They terrorize everyone on the train including the bride-to-be. Unknowingly, the true love of the woman has also boarded the train to whisk her away with him. He’s an army commando who fights well against the thieves but gets beat badly. When things escalate, so does he. The title of the movie is shown at 45 minutes in, the same time as he lets loose with his full anger.
The confines of the train and the intensity of the fighting make for a very extreme movie. It’s gory and graphic but well-done and fascinating to watch.
