Even though Hereditary came out a couple of years ago, I still hadn’t seen it as I wasn’t sure that it would be of much interest to me. As has been well chronicled in here, Midsommar was one of the creepiest and best movies of last year, in my opinion. With that piquing my interest, I put this movie on my To Watch list. In many ways it’s just as confusing but that is by design. The director, Ari Aster, is actually quite good at showing you everything but in such a way that you miss all the clues laid out in front of you. For the first 2/3 of the movie, I thought that I just wasn’t going to like it at all, even though parts of it were very interesting to me. Then, it got even weirder and by the time it was done, I found that I liked it more than I thought I would. Just like Midsommar, it’s not everyone’s kind of movie but if you want something really different in a horror vein, it might be something you’d want to check out.
