It ain’t your childhood’s Disney anymore!
I’m not here to say that is good or bad but it is different. Star Wars, Marvel and more have made Disney Studios far more than just the place to go for cartoons.
Cruella isn’t a remake of an animated movie like Mulan and Beauty and the Beast were. Instead, it is more of an origin story of the well-known villain from the classic 101 Dalmatians. Though bad behavior is inexcusable, there is usually an underlying reason for it and that is strongly portrayed. The 2 Emma’s, Stone and Thompson put in excellent performances as well as the rest of the cast.
As with most movies released right now, it was delayed from a Christmas 2020 original release date. It will be interesting to see how it does considering that it is also being released on Disney+ with a premium price.
I did like it more than I expected, likely because of the quality of the story and production design. Though the actors are somewhat caricatures, they fit the movie and the storyline.
