Yes, it’s true, this movie follows that classic movie formula of a “commoner” that falls in love with a rich heir to a family fortune. It’s predictable and the story has been told a thousand times. But, gosh darn it, this is a good movie. It has enough characters in the story to keep it interesting despite the fact that you know what is coming. And by using Chinese tradition as the back drop for much of what causes the mandatory conflict that happens within any classic love story, it manages to coverup the formulistic aspect of the story. If you just want a movie to sit back and relax while still having a couple characters you want to root for, this is worth a look. (8/10)
