When Battleship came out, it was savaged by the critics, some of it for good reason but my familiar trope once again is, if you’re going into a movie like this and expecting an Oscar contender, then that’s on you, not the movie.

Battleship uses a marketing technique that wasn’t possible even 20 years ago. It’s not uncommon for someone to stumble across a movie on TV and not knowing much about it, they are intrigued by the beginning or certain scenes. I had NO intention of watching this movie but the first 15 minutes were enough to suck me in and I cared enough about what happened that I watched all 2+ hours of it. Yes, it has its flaws and some of it doesn’t make any sense at all but there’s enough entertainment value if you care to look for it. A better title would have helped significantly but for some goofy alien war shoot-outs, you can do a lot worse.
