After the disappointing box office for Prometheus and Alien: Covenant it seemed unlikely that another Alien movie would be made but never underestimate the pull of a sequel to a known franchise and especially one as iconic as Alien. Even 45 years later, Ridley Scott is involved in a new movie in the timeline between his original exploration into space and James Cameron’s Aliens in the 80’s.

Alien: Romulus once again gives us all new characters, well pretty much, but I’m not going to spoil anything for anyone reading this. Fede Álvarez takes over directing duties and makes the movie a cross between the suspense of the original and an all-out war with the Xenomorphs.

After a bit of a confusing beginning, the movie settles in and hits the ground running. The story wasn’t fully clear to me but that didn’t matter as much as the characters just trying to survive. The synthetic character Andy was a nice surprise since I was a little curious about him when I read the reviews. The other nice surprise for me was the “returning” character who isn’t actually returning at all and before you get all bent out of shape about AI and the rest, read the behind the scenes stuff to see the steps the director took to make something good out of something that was kind of a sore subject.

I liked Alien: Romulus and thought it was a good entry into the franchise, right in line with the first 2 movies which are the strongest of the series.
