I miss baseball. A dozen or so times a year, I will intently watch a game, hanging on every pitch. For the other 150 games or so, most of them I will “watch” throughout the broadcast or sometimes when I’m doing something else. I had an item on my to do list that I really wanted to get done and it just so happened that A League of Their Own started at the same time I did with my project. We both finished about the same time and it was fun just to watch and enjoy it again. Tom Hanks plays a perfect drunk, washed-up ball player and Gina Davis is terrific as Dottie. Every role seems perfectly cast, even the smallest parts. It’s a very nice tribute to a little-known time when “girl’s baseball” was the stand-in during the war. If you’ve never seen it, it’s well worth your time.
