Horizon: An American Saga is a Kevin Costner passion project. I kinda wonder if he’s trying to stick it to Taylor Sheridan for the messy Yellowstone breakup and show that he can do a western spin-off miniseries better.
Everything about Horizon: An American Saga screams miniseries. If you divide the announced 4 movies into parts, you’ve got 12 episodes. Even the first movie had 3 parts, Montana, Wyoming and Kansas that were each unique to themselves. Costner likes to make “statement” movies, see Dances With Wolves. I think he’s competing with James Cameron for who can make the biggest production.
The movie is a little disjointed but you can see how it can all connect and come together over the course of the next 3 movies, if the last 2 are eventually released. (of course, they will be)
It is cool to see it on the big screen with the Western vistas and backgrounds. I’m curious to see what Chapter 2 is like and I don’t have to wait long because it comes out next month already.
