As a boy I read the book, The Shining, and was scared half out of my wits. When I was older, I saw the movie and though the tone is somewhat different, it held onto many of the same story lines. I never read Dr. Sleep, the actual sequel to The Shining but the movie seemed to lose some of the horror of the original with its leap into vampires and other supernatural themes.
If you are a Stephen King fan, this is a must see. Even if you just enjoyed the classic Jack Nicholson movie “The Shining”, you probably want to see this movie. However, if your looking for a classic horror story, you’ll probably be disappointed. On the other hand, I believe this story is much better than The Shining in that the story has much more depth since it involves many more characters. Also, the end of the movie will probably make a bit more sense if you had seen The Shining in advance, but it’s not necessary. (7/10)
